Baiona, September 7, 2025 – The 40th edition of the Trofeo Príncipe de Asturias, one of the most prestigious regattas on the Spanish sailing calendar, took place in Baiona, bringing together a top-tier fleet and top sailors. The three-day event saw MENTOR take center stage with the return of Makai to the podium and the participation of several of its athletes in different classes, facing varied wind conditions (irregular and wave on the first day, 18-21 knots on the second, and 12-15 knots on the third).
The most competitive class, ABANCA ORC 1-2, featured the participation of Seika, with MENTOR sailor Henrique Bui on board. The crew achieved a respectable 7th place. The podium in this class was dominated by three boats that stood out for their exceptional performances: the victory went to Aceites Abril, but the podium had a strong Portuguese presence, with Nuno Neves' Syone Panther in second place, and Rui Ramada's Yess Too rounding out the podium in third.
In a remarkable return to competition after an extensive repair period, Makai - MENTOR achieved a podium finish in the Autos Louzao Open 1 Class. The boat, skippered by Miguel Fonseca, achieved third place with 7 points, boosted by a crucial victory on the final day, which enabled it to significantly recover in the fleet. The crew, which has been competing together for several seasons, is composed of Nuno Duarte, Vasco Justino, António Caseiro, Pedro Horta e Vale, João Henriques, and Edgar Faria. Miguel Fonseca emphasized that this regatta was the start of the season, with the goal of "confirming the boat's progress."
Also in this class, Javitudo, owned by Pedro Barbosa and Sérgio Castel-Branco, participated with MENTOR sailors Paulo Andrade, Tomás Andersen, and Francisco Carona on board. Javitudo finished 8th in a fleet of 12 boats, ensuring another Portuguese presence in the championship.
In the GADIS Open 2 Class, the podium also featured a Portuguese winner. João Serodio's Saplicco-Quinta Lamosa secured first place in the class, followed by Boeiro (Luis Wizner) in second and Esquío (Cesar Castro) in third.
Miguel Fonseca praised the excellent organization in Spain and the fantastic reception from clubs in Northern Spain, such as MRYCB, RCN Sanxenxo, and RCNVigo, reinforcing his intention to compete more in the Galician rias in the coming months.
